So, soon it will be tax time and everyone will be searching through the cushions on their sofas looking for a way to maximize their tax sheltered retirement investments (if they still have jobs that is).
So here is my question, why should I pay the ridiculous fees that large bank based brokerages are charging these days when I can go to these guys. And guess what? If you open an account and refer a friend, they'll give you $50. I have not yet read all the fine print, but the big print seemed awfully appealing:

Conservative Kuhn guilty of slander in Etobicoke-Centre

The Conservatives are getting dirty and increasingly desperate in the final days of the campaign in Etobicoke Centre. Conservative candidate Axel Kuhn was found by Ontario Superior Court Justice G.R. Strathy to have libelled Liberal candidate Borys Wrzesnewskyj in a US style attack ad distributed in the riding over the weekend.

Ontario Superior Court Justice Strathy ruled that the Conservative candidate was guilty of making defamatory comments about Mr. Wrzesnewskyj by circulating misleading and inaccurate materials.

The Justice ruled that:

“The injunction sought is a serious interference with Freedom of Speech and
particularly in the context of a federal election. That right should only be
limited in only the most extraordinary circumstances.

In my view, the words in question are clearly defamatory. Based on the sworn evidence of the plaintiff, the words cannot be justified.”

As a result, there is a court order for Mr. Kuhn and his campaign to cease and desist. This is no small matter. The Canada Elections Act couldn't be more clear:

91. No person shall, with the intention of affecting the results of an election, knowingly make or publish any false statement of fact in relation to the personal character or conduct of a candidate or prospective candidate.

486. (3) Every person is guilty of an offence who (c) contravenes section *91* (making false statement re candidate);
500. (5) Every person who is guilty of an offence under any of subsections 480(1) and (2), sections 481 to 483, subsections 484(3),
485(2), *486(3),* 487(2), 488(2) and 489(3), section 490, subsections 491(3) and 492(2), section 494, subsections 495(5), 496(2) and 497(3), section 498 and subsection 499(2) is liable
(a) on summary conviction, to a fine of not more than $2,000 or to imprisonment for a term of not more than one year, or to both; or
(b) on conviction on indictment, to a fine of not more than $5,000 or to imprisonment for a term of not more than five years, or to both.

Does Mr. Kuhn recognize that his smear tactics may lead him to a stay in the big house and not the House of Commons after tomorrow's vote.?

They handed out a schedule that has no time set aside for talking to the reporters accompanying Mr. Harper on his campaign.
Unlike other party leaders, Harper only answers questions from the press on his campaign plane once a day.

Julian West (Saanich-Gulf Islands) - Exposed himself to underage girls and asked them to bodypaint his penis. Jack didn't fire him.
Dana Larsen (West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast) - Filmed himself dropping acid and taking drugs before getting behind the wheel of a car. Jack didn't fire him.
Kirk Tousaw (Vancouver-Quadra) Did a video smoking and rating 10 kinds of pot. Jack didn't fire him.
Patti Gieni (Blackstrap) - who has faced allegations of violating policies around bullying in her workplace. Jack didn't fire her.
Bev Collins (Cariboo-Prince George) -9/11 conspiracy theorist,” made comments on talk shows regarding the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre in New York doubting the 9/11 commission report and espousing conspiracy theories. Jack didn't fire her.
Andrew McKeever (Durham) - Threatened to beat up people who disagreed with him, called an anti-war activist a c**t, said “I like the part in Schindler's List when the guard starts waxing the prisoners”. Once again, Jack didn't fire him.

They say a fish rots from the head down - if this is Jack Layton's "leadership" - I certainly don't want him running my country. I wonder what would have happened if there were video cameras back in Jack's day???

A few years ago, the crew from the Cable Public Affairs Channel (CPAC) that saw Stephen Harper famously kick a chair in anger said that he gave it such a good, swift boot that it flew about five feet across the floor.

There were theories that the incident was provoked by Mr. MacKay's public attack on Harper's boy Scott Reid. As the story goes, Harper kicked the chair after it was suggested he add a line to his speech to reach out to Mr. MacKay at the founding convention of his Party. Didn't play well with others then, still doesn't now.

All this was witnessed by the CPAC crew, taking a break behind the stage.

Ukrainian President dissolves Parliament, Calls Elections

Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko dissolved Parliament and called the third set of parliamentary elections since the "Orange" revolution in 2004.

Yushchenko satated in a televised address that he "declare(d) the activities of the Verkhovna Rada suspended and called an early parliamentary election."

Yushchenko was said to have held last-ditch talks with political leaders on Wednesday to try to form a viable coalition.

His governing coalition collapsed last month when his party quit its alliance with former ally Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and her BYuT bloc. Tymoshenko said she has met all conditions set by the president for reinstating the government.

Tymoshenko is likely to challenge the call, as she has previously said calling an election before late November would be unconstitutional.

A parliamentary race, probably in December, is unlikely to bring much change to the political landscape.

From where I sit in Canada, Yushchenko's actions remind me of Harper's illegal early election call. Judging by the recent collapse in support for Harper, I hope that the Ukrainian people kick Yushchenko's ass as well.

My guess is that Stephen Harper will be in deep, deep doo-doo over the following video which shows that he clearly plagiarized his famous speech on Canada's involvement in Iraq from Australian President John Howard.

How does Stephen Harper explain the coincidence that half of a major speech he delivered in House of Commons calling for Canadian troops to be sent to the War on Iraq was a word-for-word copy of a speech delivered by then Australian PM John Howard a day earlier? The same speech which he used as the basis for op-eds in the Wall Street Journal and the National Post.

The same speech which Paul Wells at the time called the best that Harper had delivered in his career.

The same speech which Tom Flanagan in his book Harper's Team called "eloquent" (Harper's Team, 89). Flanagan also says "we printed the speech in pamphlet form and mailed out thousands of copies. As far as - could judge, there was strong support from the grassroots of the party." (89)

How does the leader of a political party in Canada's Parliament, on such a crucial issue, give the exact same speech as any another country's leader, let alone a member of W's “Coalition of the Willing”?

How can Canadians trust anything that Mr. Harper says now?

At best this is plagiarism, an offense for which kids in school are failed, university students are expelled and reporters are fired. At worst, Harper is a Stooge for the Americans (along with Howard) and he has no credibility on foreign policy whatsoever.

According to the BBC, Ukraine's pro-Western government coalition has officially collapsed, the speaker of the Ukrainian parliament says. President Viktor Yushchenko has been involved in a long-running dispute with Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.
The president's Our Ukraine bloc left the coalition earlier this month. Parliament now has 30 days to try to form a new ruling coalition. If those efforts fail, Mr Yushchenko can dissolve parliament and call a snap election.
The Our Ukraine party pulled out of the coalition on 3 September after the Tymoshenko Bloc sided with the pro-Moscow opposition Party of Regions to pass several laws that Mr Yushchenko saw as a threat to his presidential powers.

Stephen Harper has wondered into an economic minefield in this election campaign with Stats Canada reporting the Canadian economy has reported the worsteconomic grothw and productivity since Brian Mulroney.

Canadian productivity, or output per hour worked, fell 0.2% in the second quarter of 2008, after declines of 0.6% in each of the previous two quarters, Statistics Canada reported. "This is the longest series of consecutive quarterly declines since 1990," StatsCan said.

And according to Merrill Lynch economist David Wolf, it's only though creative bookkeeping that Canada has not fallen into recession:

"It's been a long time since a Canadian federal government has had to choose between supporting the economy and balancing the budget. The winner of the imminent-looking election will very likely face this unfavourable decision."

Mr. Wolf said the only reason Canada avoided a technical recession -- defined as two consecutive quarters of economic contraction -- in the first half was due to a continued expansion in the public sector. However, he said growth in the public sector was unsustainable without further government stimulus, which would likely pull the budget into deficit for the first time since 1999.

Wow. Conservatives have managed to turn high growth and surpluses to deficits in 2 short years, lovely.

A vulgar Internet ad forced Stephen Harper to hit the re-set button on his campaign Tuesday, prompting the prime minister into an embarrassing apology that buried his party's first policy announcement.

But the message was overshadowed by the case of the pesky, pooping puffin with a deadly aim and a dislike for Liberal Leader Stephane Dion.

The Tories posted an ad on their own website showing an animated airborne puffin dropping a load on Dion's shoulder. The offending image was pulled in the morning after complaints, but was regularly re-run on television news networks as part of the coverage on the controversy.

Adding to Tuesday's misery for the Conservatives was news that Rosamond Luke, the Tory candidate for the riding of Halifax, was quitting the race.

A Conservative party source confirmed late Tuesday that Luke has a criminal record, and the CBC reported she was convicted of uttering threats and received 18 months probation in July 2006.

As well, the CBC said, she was convicted of breaching an undertaking in June 2007 and was fined $50 and given an additional nine months probation.

Her departure exacerbates the difficulties the Conservatives have had finding suitable candidates in Atlantic Canada and prompted political observers to raise questions about the party's preparedness in Nova Scotia.

None of that was yet news at Dion's morning campaign stop in Montreal, where he appeared to be unaware of the puffin video when it came up in a question from the media.

Nonetheless, he pounced.

``This is saying more about them than about us,'' he said, drawing cheers from Liberal partisans. Then he rethought his first reaction.

``I want to clarify my answer ... not about them, about him (Harper). Because I know most Conservative voters last time will disagree with that. . . and they may change their vote.''

The prime minister began the campaign by predicting that the Liberals would target him with nasty personal attacks throughout the 37-day contest.

In the category of too little, even later, comes a report from the Toronto Star, that the Canadian government is backfilling a previous agreement signed between the Liberal Federal Government and the Ukrainian Canadian Congress in 2005 for $12.5 million and replacing it with a smaller agreement to be divvied up among other offended ethnic groups!

According to the Toronto Star the feds announced, "$10 million grant to recognize how Eastern European immigrants were interned in Canadian work camps during World War I."
The money goes to an endowment fund that will allow the community to better educate Canadians about the forced labour camps. The 1914-20 internment affected almost one hundred thousand Ukrainians who were stripped of their possessions and forced into work camps, while thousands more were labelled "enemy aliens" and required to report regularly to police.

The most shocking thing about this announcement is that the Ukrainian community can call getting less than 50 cents on the dollar of what they had under the Liberal agreements a victory. And this one will be shared with all aggrieved Eastern European communities.

(Makes one loaf)

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups lukewarm water
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
2 tablespoons molasses
1 square unsweetened chocolate chopped
1 tablespoon caraway seeds
1 tsp instant coffee
1 tablespoon active dry yeast
1 tsp sugar
1 and 3/4 cup dark rye flour
1/2 cup bran
1.5 tsps salt
1.5 cups unbleached white flour

cornmeal for sprinkling on pan
1 egg beaten with 2 tbsps water for egg wash

Instructions
Warm 1/2 cup of water. When it is lukewarm add the yeast and sugar. Stir and set aside for five minutes. It should get foamy.

Heat the remaining cup of water, chocolate pieces, molasses, coffee, caraway seeds and vinegar in saucepan over medium heat approximately 5 minutes until the coffee dissolves and the chocolate is melted. Remove from heat.

Let cool until the mixture is lukewarm, then add the yeast mixture and mix in the sugar, dark rye flour, bran, salt and unbleached white flour.

Knead for 6-8 minutes until you get a smooth, elastic ball of dough.

Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a large greased bowl or pot and cover with a tea towel to allow it to rise (approximately 2 hours in a warm, not hot, place.

Oil a large round oven safe container, a 1 kg coffee can, or similar size oven safe pot will do and sprinkle bottom with cornmeal.

Punch the dough down, and knead it back into a ball shape and place it into the can.

Preheat oven to 350 F .

Paint the egg wash onto the loaf with a brush, and cut a seam across the top of the loaf to vent steam. Bake for 45 minutes.

Remove from oven and let cool on a wire rack.

If you want this to be more Eastery, add rolled dough decorations of rosettes and birds on the top of the loaf.

Saskatchewan Tory MP Tom Lukiwski is in trouble after the provincial NDP released a video-tape. NDP M-L-A Pat Atkinson released the tape which contains sexist, racist, and homophobic comments. Those on the tape are current Premier Brad Wall who makes fun of Ukrainians and Regina MP Tom Lukiwski.
Lukiwski was a Tory organizer at the time, while Wall was a ministerial aide.
While Lukiwski said this about gays, ‘Let me put it to you this way. There's A's and B's. The A's are guys like me. The B's are homosexual faggots with dirt in their fingernails that transmit diseases.' ” Wall was only marginally less offensive in mocking Ukrainian Canadians.

The Conservative-Sask Party veil has fallen. Lukiwski should be turfed from the Conservative Caucus and Wall needs to make a full public apology to the Ukrainian Canadian community.

Stayed up too late to watch the American primaries and Caucuses and Super Duper Tuesday didn't disappoint.

My take on the evening is that everyone, except Mitt Romney has something to be pleased about this morning.

Obama - won 13 states in every region of the country and is leading in New Mexico with 92 % reporting, in a dead heat for delegates.

Clinton - Cauterized the wound and has stopped the bleeding. Won in big and important states like NY, California and Massachussetts.

McCain - is now the frontrunner with impressive wins in important states.

Huckabee - improves his standing to #2 contender in this three person race.

If only Canadian politics were this entertaining. We're stuck watching Conservatives pile up scandal after scandal from bungling nuclear safety to the sleaze of the Finance Minister issuing untendered contracts to the PM's press secretary lobbying for contractors...

Conflict of interest allegations involving a personal loan felled Supply and Services Minister Michel Coté in 1988.

Ukraine is hosting the Euro 2012 soccer tournament and is now in the running for an equally prestigiou honour. Kyiv is in the running to become one of the 22 cities of the world to be included in the new Monopoly World Edition game board. After much lobbying of Hasbro in Europe (ironically led by a Swiss gentleman living in Ukraine), Kyiv was included in the 68 city shortlist for voting - a major feat in and of itself.

Beginning today, you may log onto http://www.monopoly.com to cast your vote online. In fact, you may continue to do so each day until the cut-off of the contest on February 28, 2008. At the close of the online voting, the twenty cities that receive the most votes will become part of Monopoly history as the first cities selected to be on the World Edition game board. These cities will appear on the Monopoly board from highest rent property to lowest based upon the total number of votes received.

This is a significant development as this World Edition board game will be sold in over a hundred countries around the world and manufactured in 37 languages (including Ukrainian). This a great (albeit symbolic) way to get Ukraine on the international map!

Conservative Harpocrisy on lobbyists

Consider this:

During the 2006 election campaign, PM Steve's party campaigned on a pledge to:

"Toughen the Lobbyists Registration Act" and accused Liberals of "move(ing) freely back and forth between elected and non-elected government posts and the world of lobbying."
They went on to say that a Conservative government would, among other things:
• Extend to five years the period during which former ministers, ministerial staffers, and senior public servants cannot lobby government.
• Require ministers and senior government officials to record their contacts with lobbyists.
• Give the Registrar of Lobbyists the mandate and resources to investigate violations.
• Extend to ten years the period during which violations can be investigated and prosecuted.

Yet an article in the Saskatoon Star Phoenix today states that:

Canadians are not likely to notice any difference in their (lobbyists') activities during the election campaign expected this year.

Consider Yaroslav Baran. Baran, who has been a high-powered lobbyist at Earnscliffe Strategy Group, is expected to once again take up his post running communications in the Conservatives' war room when an election is called, as he has done in the previous two campaigns. The fact that the Conservatives have declared a ban on lobbyists in their war room this time around won't affect him.

That's because Baran is no longer a lobbyist -- he de-registered just last week. He is leaving Earnscliffe and will join Conservative House leader Jay Hill's office next week as his new chief of staff, clearing the way for his key organizational involvement in the campaign that could be launched as early as next month.

I wonder if the "toughened up" Registrar of lobbyists will investigate and prosecute Baran?

I have previously expressed my support for him here, here, here, here and here. That does not in any way reduce the joy that I feel in today's Iowa Caucus results.

Senator Barack Obama and former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee have emerged the victors in Iowa tonight, respectively winning the presidential caucuses.

Obama won with a significant lead over his main rival and Democratic front-runner, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton. In fact, Senator John Edwards came in second but Clinton came in at a very close third while votes were still being tallied.

Well the BBC, as it turns out, are not as big wankers as I was going to write. It turns out that the BBC has reversed its earlier decision to censor The Pogues' Fairytale of New York. This is one of the most beautiful holiday songs that gives me that warm and buttery Christmas feeling.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the nativity police at Elmdale public school in Ottawa who have replaced the word Christmas in the song Silver Bells for their Christmas, err holiday concert. And to top it off and really infuriate me is the audacity of the school board chair when called to account for this repugnant censorship. A new Canadian Press Harris-Decima survey suggests PM Steve's Conservatives have lost their big lead over the Liberals, plunging six percentage points in popular support in just one week.

The 450-seat Verkhovna Rada on December 18 approved Yulia Tymoshenko, leader of the parliamentary bloc bearing her name (BYuT), as Ukraine's prime minister, UNIAN reported. Tymoshenko received 226 votes, the exact number needed for her approval as premier. The voting session was attended only by the coalition lawmakers of the BYuT and the Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defense bloc (NUNS). All 156 BYuT members and 70 out of 72 NUNS members voted in favor of Tymoshenko. Ivan Spodarenko did not cast his vote because he was hospitalized, and Ivan Plyushch abstained.

So Mulroney appeared before Parliamentary Committee today and revealed that:

1) he took cash payments on 3 separate occasions as an MP and again after;
2) he only paid tax on the money when he learned of Schreiber being charged with tax evasion.

There are, however, some gaping holes in his testimony:

He only filed his non-disclosed 1993 income in 1999. What is surprising is that he claimed the income as earned in 1999 and not legally as 1993 income.
He did:
· not re-file the 1993 tax year with the added income;
· not make a voluntary declaration to the CRA that the income earned was in 1993 and not 1999;
· inappropriately claim expenses incurred in 1993 that generated the non-disclosed income;
· as an Officer of the Court, he sees nothing ethically or legally wrong with filing for the wrong year.

Mulroney refused to produce any documents to substantiate his claims.

If any other Canadian citizen chose to withhold the disclosure of income earned, CRA would be demanding a mountain of documents detailing year(s) of tax returns submitted previously by the tax payer.

Many Canadians are personally disgusted with this sense of entitlement by a former Prime Minister. He benefited from six years of undisclosed income. Ordinary citizens cannot! Now, more than ever, we need a full Royal Commission of Inquiry into this whole sordid affair.

The Ukraine election was almost 100 days ago and today, Yulia Tymoshenko was nominated for the position of PM and her nomination required a majority vote in the 450 seat legislature. Guess what? She came up a vote short with 225. Needless to say there are all kinds of conspiracy theories floating around. I hope that her nomination is approved quickly so that Ukraine's new government can get started.

I am wondering if anyone has ever tried the one of those switch home vacation places. I have heard of some mixed results on these things.
In any event, I was thinking about Ukraine hosting Euro 2012 jointly with Poland and my mind got to wandering about going to see Sheva play for Chelsea since he started scoring again. So I was wondering what types of travel arrangements exist for a pre-Euro soccer vacation on the cheap.

I came across Cheaper than Hotels and was wondering if anyone has ever tried them. The strange thing about the title is that it suggests that they are not hotels...

So Media tycoon Conrad Black, accused by prosecutors of operating a corporate kleptocracy has been found guilty and sentenced to 6.5 years in an American pen. So Lord Black is now a convicted felon...who would make a good cell mate?

A) Michael Vick - who got only 23 months for his dog fighting operation;
B) Larry the mayor guy O'Brien? (who has only been charged not convicted)
C) Robert Picton - Convicted British Columbia murderer; or
D) Brian (I never had relations with that man, Mr Schreiber) Mulroney.

Schreiber drops bomb on Mulroney in Commons Committee

Karlheinz Schreiber testified under oath at a parliamentary committee today that he was told by Brian Mulroney's former chief of staff to funnel proceeds of the Airbus sale into a Swiss bank account destined for the former prime minister.
The accusation is the first time Schreiber has explicitly said the former prime minister may have benefited from the Air Canada purchase Airbus jetliners.
Schreiber told a Commons committee that Fred Doucet asked him to open an account in the name of Mulroney's lawyer in 1992 or 1993.
Mulroney was still the prime minister when Schreiber alleges the discussion occurred.
Schreiber said the request astounded him.
``What the hell has Mulroney to do with Airbus?'' Schreiber recalled asking Doucet, who was working as a lobbyist by then.
Doucet's answer: ``Are you naive?''
He said the conversation with Doucet took place in the Ottawa offices of Government Consultants International _ a lobbying firm stocked with staffers who were well-connected to Mulroney.
``Why would Mulroney get money for Airbus? For what?'' Schreiber said he asked Doucet.
``And he said, `Airbus.' ''
Within hours of the conversation, a rattled Schreiber said he contacted Frank Moores, another Mulroney confidant who was one of the principal owners of the lobbying firm, about the payments destined for Mulroney.
Moores told him to forget about the conversation, Schreiber testified. Others at GCI also urged him to ignore the reasons behind the request for the transfer to a Swiss bank account.
``They told me I should stay away from this. It is in their hands and they look after Brian Mulroney.'' Questions have long swirled around the 1988 purchase of 34 Airbus jets by then-Crown owned Air Canada.
Mulroney sued the Liberal government under Jean Chretien which was forced to apologize and pay Mulroney a $2.1-million settlement to cover his legal and professional fees.
Mulroney has subsequently admitted to taking $300,000 in cash from Schreiber in three separate hotel room meetings in the early 1990s. The ex-prime minister has never explained why he took the payments in cash, nor when he paid taxes on the payments.

Tymoshenko said Party of Regions offered bribes to her bloc

In a move reminiscent of the Mulroney-Schreiber tango going on in Ottawa, Yulia Tymoshenko, the leader of the parliamentary bloc bearing her name (BYuT), said that the opposition Party of Regions tried to bribe four lawmakers to withdraw their signatures from the coalition agreement between the BYuT and the Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defense bloc.
Tymoshenko said the lawmakers accepted the bribes with the goal of collecting evidence against the Party of Regions. "This was our project to publicly demonstrate a betrayal of political morality, the Party of Region's betrayal of the principles that should exist in politics. We have recorded the transfer of the money, which we then returned. We recorded how, where, and to whom they returned it," she said. Tymoshenko said that "one lawmaker's soul is valued at $20 million." In late November, Tymoshenko accused the Party of Regions of attempts to bribe BYuT lawmakers.

It seems that high-rolling ministers shuttling around in jets is not a thing of the past, but part of PM Steve's Mulroney revival efforts. This is what La Presse had to say:

Des documents obtenus en vertu de la Loi sur l'accès à l'information démontrent qu'entre avril et août, le ministre a dépensé 68 000 $ pour 14 vols nolisés. Dans la moitié des cas, les appareils ont servi à transporter le ministre entre Ottawa et la base militaire de Bagotville, située dans le comté de Chicoutimi-Le Fjord, une circonsciption voisine à celle du ministre. La plupart du temps, le ministre était le seul passager. Il n'a en effet amené son attaché de presse avec lui qu'à trois reprises et il est arrivé que cette personne ne soit présente que pour une portion du voyage.

Pas une première pour le ministre
Dans une déclaration écrite transmise à La Presse Canadienne, le cabinet de Jean-Pierre Blackburn assure par ailleurs que le ministre prend des vols commerciaux chaque fois que c'est possible. Cela est effectivement arrivé à quelques reprises.
Le ministre a fait état de dépenses de près de 20 000 $ pour des vols commerciaux au cours des derniers mois. Le tiers de cette somme est lié à des déplacements à l'extérieur du Québec et un autre tiers est le résultat du voyage du ministre en Gaspésie au lendemain des inondations de l'été dernier.
Ce n'est pas la première fois que Jean-Pierre Blackburn est la cible de critiques pour son recours jugé abusif à des vols nolisés ainsi que pour sa propension à camoufler les dépenses qui y sont associées.
Le printemps dernier, La Presse Canadienne révélait en effet que le ministre avait dépensé environ 150 000 $ pour louer des avions en 2006 et que cette somme
n'apparaissait nulle part dans ses rapports de dépense.

Brian Mulroney sued Canada and walked away with $2.1 million in a settlement that included testimony wherein Mulroney claimed to have limited dealings with Karlheinz Schreiber. Yesterday, we learned from Karlheinz Schreiber that Mulroney orchestrated the $300,000 in cash payments while he was still PM.

Two of the most enduring characters in the history of Canadian children's programming, Rusty the Rooster and Jerome the Giraffe, are being removed from their retirement home at the CBC.
The children of actor and Friendly Giant creator Bob Homme, were angered by the CBC's recent treatment of the loveable puppets and have e-mailed The Globe and Mail, asking for assistance in tracking down a video of the recent Gemini Awards, which included a skit showing Rusty, Jerome and other stuffed stars now living in a retirement home after their shows were cancelled.
From friends, Ms. Homme had heard about her dad's puppets appearing in the mock clip, where a narrator described them as sitting around, drinking, smoking and having sex.
Rusty and Jerome were not shown engaging in any salacious behaviour. Personally, I believe thatwhat former puppets do in the privacy of their retirement home is none of her damned business.
Maybe she has "other plans" for the puppets...
